You're a Mean One... Mr Grinch

The holidays are in full swing. The Grinch is the perfect character to express how I'm feeling about the craziness that surrounds the holiday season! I put him on my grouchy finger...

I just want to say that this green ROCKS. It is BB Couture Poison Ivy. This is the first polish I've tried from this line. It is so stinking shiny. This is two coats with Seche Vite on top. This is now my favorite green. I have a few more greens to try from BB Couture. We'll see if they end up being favorites too! I understand the hoopla over this line now. It really applied well.

The Grinch's face is Carolyn New York Greenwich Ave. What a bummer that this company is no longer around. The hat is China Glaze's China Rouge. The trim is OPI Alpine White. His eyes are blended colors.

Sidenote: I finally took the silk wrap off my middle finger!!!! The break finally grew past the free edge. My middle nail is so short. The rest of my nails have been growing at their usual crazy fast pace. I've been filing off any new growth because of that LOW in the nail bed break on my middle nail. Now that that break is past the "painful if trimmed" stage, I decided to do a gel extension on my middle nail only. I used a nail tip placed under (instead of on) my nail (I didn't have any forms.) I used a builder gel and sculpted the tip of my middle nail to match the length and shape of my other nails. I cured the gel under a UV light. Then, I removed the plastic nail tip. I really didn't think this would work. If it stays put.. I'll do a tutorial.. :)

Avon Nailwear Pro Swatches and a Comp

First, here is a reindeer I made out of a beer can last year. :) Tis the season!

Now, onto the swatches!

I've wanted to try Avon nail polish again for some time. I used it when I was little. My mom would order skin so soft products every summer (it's supposed to keep mosquitos away.) She would always let me pick out a few things. (have I ever mentioned how amazing my mom is?) I remember getting the lipsmacker-like chapsticks (I'd eat them) and the nail polish in PLASTIC containers! Avon nail polish has come a long way. These are all glass bottles. :)

You can order these from Avon.com

Tweed is a perfect vampy jelly bordeaux color. This is three coats with seche vite top coat. Two coats would have been plenty. (side note: I still have a flipping silk wrap on my middle nail. Since these were swatches I didn't get it perfectly smooth. )

Nocturnal is a very easy to apply putty color. Color wise, it is an exact duplicate of OPI You Don't Know Jacques. It is more creamy and opaque faster than it's twin.
Here, the whole nail is painted with You Don't Know Jacques. I painted a swipe of nocturnal in the box. Can you see a difference? I can't! :)
More comparisons: 1. You Don't Know Jacques 2. Nocturnal 3. Orly Prince Charming 4. Sephora By OPI Metro Chic
Midnight plum is a pretty vampy plum shade. It looks almost black indoors. But, not fully black. The purple is noticeable.
This is Blue Flare. Definitely the most unique of the bunch. It is frosty without being streaky. I like that it is fairly dark without being blackened.

Classic fit is an almost black vampy purple. The top picture shows it's vampy side. The bottom pic shows it's purple base color.
This color is so not me! I don't know what to say. :) It totally doesn't fit in with the other colors I picked. I'm not sure what I was thinking?!

I've been using this cuticle balm for a few days now. The dry weather has been killing my cuticles. I'm really loving this balm. It's easier to travel with than solar oil. I feel like it protects my cuticles more than just oiling them up. :) The scent is very faint.

Hard Candy Mr Wrong Is Oh So Very Right!!

I very rarely wear a color for more than a day. I've had this beauty on since SUNDAY! The picture was snapped today (Wednesday) and you can see some tip wear. But, considering how tough I am on my nails, this stuff is awesome! This truly is my favorite new color from 2009. The gold flakie pieces give it a foily finish. But, it's not too chrome like or frosty. A+ (and a D+ for only being available at Wal*Mart)

Thanksgiving Manicure. Bring On The Tryptophan!

So, these are the things that I am most looking forward to eating on Thanksgiving. Turkey, pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes are going to be consumed in quantities that would shock a competitive eater.

And yes... I am going to eat the Pillsbury dough boy. He is fast. But, I am faster! Muuuhahahaha.... (that is supposed to be an evil laugh)

After I am done. I will need some of these.

I am ready for Thanksgiving dinner!! Bring it on!! *adjusting my turkey eating pants*

PS On a nail polish note! The base color is Orly's Enchanted Forest. It's two coats. This green is gorgeous!! Definitely not black. Very nice. The Turkey is Ginger balls (oops) OPI Ginger BELLS from the new holiday collection. The mashed potato bowl is Sally Hansen Nasturitum. Pillsbury dough boy's eyeballs are OPI Dating A Royal. The rest of the colors are blended.

Welcome to the Jungle Zebra Konad

This is the image that has been in my head while wearing this manicure. Axl Rose sitting on a zebra's butt. You know where you are??? You're in the jungle baby!

This is a basic zebra manicure. Basic? yes. Boring? NO! Zebra manicures never seem to get old. :) I used OPI stars in my eyes and konad plate m57 with black special polish. This is on day THREE!! I can't believe I kept a manicure on for three whole days.

Nubar Purple Rain, Prince and Laundry

Today's color is the gorgeous Nubar Purple Rain. So, I had Prince stuck in my head all day! This is a very good thing. The whole day was spent doing laundry and Prince helped me through it. The pics were taken in my laundry room. So, they don't really capture how pretty this color is. It didn't matter anyway. I've been testing out Poshe top coat. It isn't doing it for me. It gets so many dents in it while it's trying to dry! I think I'll stick to my beloved Seche vite! Nail polish is so very fickle. One person's holy grail of top coats is another person's holy poo! :)

Maybelline Poptimistic ~ Glad To Be Green

This is the new green from the Maybelline "Poptimistic" collection. It is a pretty shade. I do find it a teensy, weensy bit too frosty. I loved the color but the frosting was weird... Now, the frosting I used for the background is PERFECT. YUM...... (oh yes, that is funfetti frosting)

Antique China Glaze Dusk and New Hard Candy Hot Pants

This is an old china glaze I found at a beauty supply. It was so gunky I had to use about 10 gallons of thinner to revive this beauty! I felt like jazzing it up a bit and added hard candy hot pants glitter as a top coat. Wow! I feel like I have little jewels on my nails. :) Plus, it helped to disguise the not very well blended silk wrap on my badly damaged middle nail.

Weezer Pinkerton / Hiroshige Night Snow At Kambara Mani

I love this artwork for two reasons. 1. It's gorgeous 2. It's the inspiration for the cover art of Weezer's Pinkerton album! :)

Pinkerton came out in 1996. It is an amazing album. The artwork is by Hiroshige. The title of the piece is "Kambara Yoru no Yuki" or "Night Snow at Kambara." The original artwork is in the Ukiyo-e genre. They used woodblocks to print their designs.

Ouch! OPI Glove You So Much On Nubbins...

I was moving the couch so I could clean under it and I snapped two nails off. My middle nail broke so low that I had to repair it. The funny thing is that I had my file out last night to rock nubbins again! I guess my mind was made up for me.... The color is OPI Glove You So Much from the new Holiday collection.

Musical Manicure Madness!

Can you guess what awesome band inspired today's manicure?? I'll give you a hint. They have a new album out called Raditude that is only $3.99 on Amazon.. It's WEEZER! :)

Above is the mani after I added the little Weezer insignia. :) Each nail was inspired by a different Weezer album. L-R The Green Album (pure ice wild thing,) Make Believe (colorama black,) The Blue Album (random sally hansen franken) and The Red Album (OPI thrill of brazil.)

Here is it without the W's.

New Finger Paints Holiday Colors

Evergreen Dream is exactly what it's name implies, a dream! It is a perfect green shimmer. You can almost smell the conifers when you wear this color. This is two coats with no top coat.
Icy Iris. Can you say hubba hubba?? This is a really pretty purple. I swear I see a slight duochrome in the bottle. Alas, on the nail it isn't visible. Darn! This color is something between a small glitter or a large shimmer. Is that a glimmer.... glitmer.. shitter? :)
I compared icy iris to a few colors. Left to right: LA Colors Rock Star Groupie, Nicole by OPI black to the future, OPI Ink and then icy iris.

Decked with Dazzle is an okay color. I give it a 7 out of 10. It's a little sheer and a little mauve. The glimmer in it is gorgeous and saves this color from being boring.

This is for my awesome blog followers. I appreciate you taking the time to check out my little blog. May the Weezer snuggie keep you warm and toasty!

OPI You Don't Know Jacques and Square Nails!

This is a great color. I can't believe I didn't pick it up until this past week. Oh Jacques!! Where have you been all my life? :)
I hacked my nails and said good-bye to the squoval shape. We'll see how long it takes for the squared corners to break! :)
